Whether you’ve been engaged with creative projects over the past months or ready to jump back in, this workshop is a great way to reignite your creative practice and infuse it with meaning and energy.

This full-day session combines exploration of the concept of balance in our lives as well as how we can use balance as an inspiration in our creative work. Inspired by my Conscious Creativity series courses, this in-person workshop will offer you an opportunity to explore the creative process through the perspective of mindfulness, presence and intention.

We’ll begin the workshop with a discussion about balance, alignment, calibration and recalibration in our lives. Then we’ll move into an exploration of balance as inspiration — and how to use it as a jumping-off point for our work. We’ll talk about reflection, repetition, symmetry as a design device, and creating focus and harmony in our work. I’ll also share images of unexpected ways balance is employed by artists, and revealed by nature.

We’ll talk about strategies for approaching mixed media mosaic work in ways that invite playful exploration and intuitive connections. We’ll also discuss how to create “visual scaffolding” in the early stages of our work, and how to develop an art piece in a way that feels uniquely balanced to each of us.

I’ll offer lessons on working with diverse materials and mixed-media. I will also offer basic lessons on tool use for mixed-media mosaics. We will be using clear silicone as an adhesive, creating pieces that will not require grouting.

Materials and tools provided:

  • A variety of glass, mirror and mixed-media elements

  • Collage materials (photos, ephemera)*

  • Your choice of round or square prepared substrate

*You are also welcome to bring any special materials from home.

This will be a fun, experimental workshop. Students will come away with a completed piece for interior display.
