Mosaics: Working with Texture and Light
Sunday, February 10th from 10am - 3 pm
At the New Orleans School of Art and Craft
Cost: $125
Students will learn how to work with glass, stone and other mixed media to achieve a rich textured mosaic without grouting.
Using a tinted mortar bed or a clear adhesive with a painted background, students will be able to explore a variety of opaque, transparent and semi-transparent materials while experimenting with levels of texture that are difficult to achieve in a grouted piece.
I’ll demonstrate how to cut different materials to take advantage of all surfaces including the riven edge and the inside of certain materials (sometimes way more interesting that the outside!), how to layer glass and how to achieve a beautiful play of light with various materials.
This technique is very freeing and one of my favorite ways to work with mixed media.
All levels/ beginner friendly.
All materials and tools provided. Students may bring old jewelry, beads or other personal items in include in their piece (optional).
